FAQ
General Questions
1.1 How safe is acupuncture?
When performed by a licensed clinician with single-use, sterile needles, acupuncture is extremely safe. Typical after-effects are minor and short-lived—minor bruising, temporary soreness can sometimes occur.
1.2 What happens at my first APPOINTMENT?
Your initial appointment is a single 90-minute session that combines a full consultation with your first treatment; all subsequent appointments are focused 60-minute treatment sessions.
1.3 What should I wear or bring?
Loose clothing that can roll above knees and elbows.
Service-Specific Questions
2.1 Comprehensive vs Healthspan Acupuncture
Q: How do they differ?
A: Comprehensive Acupuncture targets existing acute and chronic conditions; Healthspan Acupuncture is preventive, aimed at preserving cardiovascular, metabolic, and neuro-cognitive function before decline sets in.
2.2 Sports Medicine Acupuncture
Q: Do you treat both acute injuries and chronic conditions?
A : Yes.
Acute trauma—sprains, strains or impact bruising—is managed with precise local needling along the injured channel segment to calm pain signals and curb inflammation. Distal balance points and, where appropriate, light cupping.
Chronic or repetitive-strain conditions are addressed with channel-based acupuncture to restore healthy tissue blood flow, targeted myofascial needling to ease entrenched tension, and supplementary Gua Sha or cupping to improve fascia release and circulation enhancement. This combination reduces pain, enhances range of motion and supports durable tissue repair.
Q: Is dry-needling the same thing?
A: No.
Dry-needling uses trigger-point technique alone. Sports Medicine Acupuncture integrates classical channel theory with orthopaedic assessment for broader effect.
3.1 Body Cupping vs Body Gua Sha
Q: Which treatment is most effective for delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) after training?
A: When soreness is diffuse, therapeutic cupping is preferred; its negative pressure lifts fascia, improves blood-and-lymph flow, and decompresses large muscle groups. If discomfort is concentrated in a tight band or knot, Body Gua Sha is more suitable—its targeted shear releases adhesions and calms local inflammation.
Q: Can cupping or Gua Sha help with conditions beyond ordinary muscle soreness—such as fibromyalgia or sports over-use injuries?
A: Yes. In chronic pain syndromes like fibromyalgia, gentle cupping can be used along the paraspinal and limb muscles to boost micro-circulation, reduce low-grade inflammation and modulate the nervous system’s pain response. For over-use problems—tendinopathies, shin splints, forearm flexor strain—targeted Gua Sha breaks down early adhesions, stimulates tissue repair and restores functional range.
Q: Will the treatments leave marks?
A: Body cupping can create circular discolouration that fades in 3–7 days. Body Gua Sha produces a speckled flush that resolves within 48–72 hours. Facial services use lighter pressure and typically leave only a transient pinkness.
4.1 Facial Services
Q: How long do results last?
A: Gua Sha Facial Lift provides a visible glow for several days; cumulative lift appears after 4–6 weekly sessions. Acupuncture Facial Lift yields firmer contour that typically endures 2–3 months after a 6–8-session course.
Q: Can I combine facial acupuncture with injectables?
A: Yes, once the standard two-week post-injection window has passed.
5.1 Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture
Q: Does auricular (ear) acupuncture hurt, and what sensations should I expect during treatment?
A: Sensations are generally mild. You may feel a brief, pin-point prick as each fine needle is inserted, sometimes followed by warmth, heaviness, or a faint dull ache at the point. These signals indicate effective neurosensory engagement and usually fade within 10–20 seconds. Most patients then experience a spreading sense of calm or lightness as autonomic tone shifts toward a parasympathetic (“rest-and-repair”) state. Post-session, the ear may feel slightly tender for a few hours, and very small adhesive ear seeds can be applied to extend therapeutic stimulation between visits.
Q: Can auricular (ear) acupuncture be combined with Comprehensive Acupuncture for greater effect?
A: Yes. Auricular points and body points act through complementary neural pathways. While Comprehensive Acupuncture addresses systemic patterns via channel networks, auricular acupuncture gives rapid, reflex–based access to central pain-modulation and autonomic centres. Used together in the same session—or sequenced within a treatment plan—they can reinforce analgesia, deepen relaxation, and accelerate regulation of sleep, mood and stress physiology. Your clinician will advise when a dual approach offers the best therapeutic advantage for your specific goals.
Q: Can auricular (ear) acupuncture be integrated into a Healthspan Acupuncture programme?
A: Certainly. Healthspan Acupuncture targets long-term cardiovascular, metabolic and neuro-cognitive resilience through body points chosen for systemic regulation. Adding selected ear points reinforces autonomic balance, dampens low-grade inflammation and refines stress-hormone rhythms—key levers for preserving healthy ageing. When combined, body and ear protocols offer a synergistic way to stabilise sleep architecture, curb background sympathetic over-activity and support steady energy metabolism. Your clinician will incorporate auricular work when it aligns with your overall treatment objectives.

Before & After Care
8.1 Before your session
If eating, have a meal no later than 1–2 hours beforehand. Avoid alcohol.
8.2 After your session
Stay hydrated and keep warm.
Give yourself rest to enhance therapeutic effect.
Avoid heavy meals, strendous exercise and alcohol.
8.3 Needle concerns
If you are needle-sensitive, non-needle modalities (acupressure, cupping, Gua Sha) can be utilised.
